Arkansas Allows Over-the-Counter Ivermectin Sales Without Prescription
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has signed Senate Bill 189 into law, authorizing the sale of ivermectin for human use without a prescription or consultation with a healthcare professional. This legislation permits over-the-counter access to ivermectin, a medication traditionally used to treat parasitic infections. The law will take effect 90 days after the Arkansas state legislature adjourns. KATV
Ivermectin gained national attention during the COVID-19 pandemic as an unapproved treatment, despite warnings from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration against its use for COVID-19. The new Arkansas law represents a significant shift in the state’s stance on the drug, which was previously available only through a doctor’s prescription.KATV
